Commitment Ceremonies: Celebrating Your Love

Love is love. I firmly believe that every couple should be able to legally declare their love and commitment to one another. Commitment ceremonies demonstrate the universal qualities of love and the power of formal commitment. Until Gay and Lesbian couples have the same rights as other couples, it is imperative that they be able to celebrate and commemorate their commitment in a way that truly means something to them.

I work with Gay and Lesbian couples to create a personalized commitment ceremony that reflects their character and attitudes, their unique love story, and their individual vows to one another. You will review drafts of your ceremony and edit it until it is just right for the two of you.

Some elements of a traditional wedding ceremony may not be suited to your situation or sentiments for one another. I am open to the specific and unique aspects of how you love one another; I sincerely want to help you express that love in a meaningful ceremony. I will work with you to create something lovely, unique, personal and meaningful to you as a couple. I will listen to you with my whole heart.

Commitment ceremonies may include many conventional wedding ceremony elements:

An exchange of vows and or rings, a declaration.

The couple may chose to include readings, a unity ritual reflecting a cultural connection, distinctive music, or a ceremony to honor their families - particularly their children.

Like any other wedding, a commitment ceremony can be very relaxed and casual. It may only consist of words spoken while you hold hands, and speak your heartfelt vows to one another among a small group of witnesses.

The traditional wedding ceremony structure may not speak to you at all. I understand that. I will help you to create an entirely unique ceremony that expresses your love the way you want it to.

A well-crafted commitment ceremony that reveals your mutual heartfelt dedication to loving one another will certainly confirm your relationship in the eyes of your guests. Your views on same sex marriage may be included in the ceremony in a call for social action, justice, and support.

A customized commitment ceremony may be just the right thing for you to sanctify your relationship for life. I would love to help you to declare your promises to each other, surrounded by the support and love of your family and friends.
