Welcome to my blog!

Every important event deserves to be a celebration and an affirmation of life. Everyone deserves the right to commemorate the important moments in in life with celebrations that are meaningful. I became a celebrant because I firmly believe that celebration and ritual belong to everyone, not just people who belong to houses of worship. I am so happy to be able to help people to create the weddings, civil union ceremonies, and other celebrations that really fit who they are.

I was inspired to become a celebrant after having a perfunctory wedding officiated by a judge at the town courthouse. We tried to make it special by getting dressed up and having some family there, but it was pretty weird walking out of the courtroom and being applauded by the people waiting on line to pay their traffic tickets. A wedding ceremony is such a personal thing and it was such an impersonal ceremony with words we had heard a thousand times before on tv and in movies and at other weddings. There was nothing personal about it at all. I think the judge even pronounced our names wrong. At the time we had no idea that celebrants existed, and therefore we settled for city hall. We certainly didn’t want to have an officiant we barely knew to insert their views into our ceremony.

When I found out I could become a celebrant I knew that the job would be perfect for me. Having been a social worker working in the education field for about ten years, I knew that being a celebrant would draw on the skills I have learned in my career and also allow me to express my creativity and spirituality. What is most important to me when working with a couple is listening to them. I want to make entirely sure that their ceremony fits them as people.

My training through the Celebrant USA Foundation was thorough and rewarding. I studied ceremonies for couples and learned how to collaborate with my clients and craft ceremonies that met their needs and desires.

Now I’m the officiant for weddings, civil unions, commitment ceremonies, retirement ceremonies, cronings, coming of age ceremonies, baby welcomings, funerals, memorials and celebrations of life in New Jersey and New York. I perform civil, secular, non-denominational, interfaith, spiritual, multicultural, earth based, humanist and non-religious weddings.

I endeavor to help people commemorate the changes in their lives, whether joyful or solemn, and I make certain that they have the opportunity to celebrate these events in a fashion that is truly meaningful to them.

Performing ceremonies as a celebrant has been some of the most meaningful and profound work I have ever done.
